July Makeup Madness

Thought I’d share a few items I’ve bought in the last few weeks – some are repurchases and others to try.

The repurchases:

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strip Eye Liner: This comes in several different shades all with a black liner (with some colored flecks to bring out the color of your eyes). I tend to just grab the black liner and gift the other liners to family. This eyeliner has easily become my holy grail over the years. It has a built in sharpener to keep the shape nice and pointed. It stays put in my waterline and doesn’t irritate my eyes at all. It doesn’t glide on a smoothly as other liners do, but it’s doesn’t drag either.

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment: This is now my second tube and I’ve got the say it’s one of the most dummy-proof face products I own. I’m an NC35 in MAC and I wear this in the shade Medium. It has SPF 30 and solid medium coverage. It’s perfect for those days you just need to run out the door but don’t want to go out bare-faced. I apply it with my hands and it dries to a silky finish. It does a very good job at controlling the oil in my problematic t-zone. In normal conditions (anything below 85ºF weather) it stays in place for a good eight hours.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup: This is actually my second time buying this, with the first time ending up with me returning it. I got color matched at Sephora, and when I got home it didn’t match as well as it did in stores. I ended up exchanging it for the Tarte BB (as mentioned above). As of late I’ve been on a foundation kick, and decided to give this one another go. I got the one TWO shades lighter than the one I previously got, and it’s a much better match (Ivory Beige 3N1). I’ve tried it a couple of times and it certainly is a full coverage, won’t budge foundation. The biggest downside is that it doesn’t come with a pump – for a high-end makeup product you should get full dispensing control. (UPDATE: I bought a Clinique Superbalanced Foundation pump on Macys.com for $2.00 and it works perfectly. It seems really silly that for a high-end foundation like Double Wear that there isn’t a pump included.)

On another note, I’ve had their Double Wear Light in Intensity 4.0 for a little over a year. Once again, the color matching was way off. In addition to it being too dark, it oxidizes. Not a cute look. Unfortunately I never got around to returning it. However, I found a great medium by mixing it with my Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream Perfect Fit that’s too light, and it’s perfect. Nothing went to waste.

The new purchases are Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette, Covergirl The Super Sizer mascara (Black Brown), Maybelline Superstay Better Skin foundation (50 Natural Beige), Physicians Formula Nude Wear Touch of Glow foundation (Light/Medium), Physicians Formula Super BB All-in-1 Cheek & Lip Beauty Balm (Natural Peach), and Physicians Formula Argan Wear Ultra-Nourishing Again Oil Bronzer (Light Bronzer).

Can’t wait to play with my new “toys”. Till next time.
